GDL is usually found in honey, fruit juice, wine and has been sold for cheese.

GDL is neutral, but hydrolyzed in water to become acidic gluconic acid, adding

a deep taste to the food, although it has about one third of citric acid. It is 

metabolized to 6-phosphate-D-gluconate; one gram of GDL produces approximately

the same metabolic energy as one gram of sugar.
